When Rebecca was ten she wrote a story about the day in the life of a penny. Said tale scooped her the first prize at a County Fair and from then on she knew she wanted to tell stories. The only problem was that she never found the words to express her vision quite so eloquently ever again. Luckily Rebecca picked up her Mother's 70's Minolta 35mm aged fifteen and began honing her craft, orchestrating the scenes in front of her and capturing them.
Her work is often enigmatic - tantalizing stills that hint at a greater whole or a fairytale universe: a girl sprawled out in her bedroom, candyfloss clouds hovering above, a high heel-clad foot emerging from the dirt like a potted plant.
There's a playfulness to her imagery: musicians Pete and The Pirates surrounded by origami sailboats or singer Paloma Faith caught balancing books on her head in a wood-panelled library. Such is Rebecca's desire to create an arresting image, on one shoot she found herself crammed into a photo booth with the singer Alessi's Ark and a horse called Maya!
It is Rebecca's ability to tell a visual tale that has meant she has been sought after, not only to shoot campaigns for the likes of Mischa Barton, Nica Handbags and Tippy K Shoes but to Art Direct them too.
Natural portraiture is also Rebecca's forte - preserving an intimacy and stillness in her subjects. Her shots have been featured in many publications including The Telegraph, The Independent, Sunday Times Style, Mojo, Nylon, i-D and Stool Pigeon and she has been regularly commissioned by record labels such as XL, Sony, EMI, Virgin, EMI, Island, Rough Trade, 4AD and Warp.
Rebecca was born in Northern California, eventually moving to San Francisco to study Photography at The Academy Of Art University. After graduating with a B.A she moved to London where she lives and works today.
